1) Explain how Milkha Singh's hard work and dedication helped him to become a famous athlete.
Milkha Singh, also known as the “Flying Sikh,” is one of India’s most famous athletes. He became successful because of his hard work, dedication, and never-give-up attitude.
Milkha Singh faced many difficulties in his early life. He lost his parents during the partition of India and had to struggle for survival. He lived in a refugee camp and even got involved in petty crimes. But he turned his life around when he joined the Indian Army. It was there that he discovered his talent for running.
He practiced with full determination. He would wake up early, run long distances, and train even when he was tired. He knew that success comes only through discipline and effort. Milkha worked harder than anyone else, often running barefoot in the hot sun and on rocky grounds.
His hard work showed results when he won gold medals in the Asian Games in 1958 and 1962. He also represented India in the Olympics. In the 1960 Rome Olympics, he came very close to winning a medal in the 400 meters race. Even though he finished fourth, his performance was appreciated all over the world.
His life teaches us that no matter how hard your past is, you can still reach great heights through dedication and hard work. Milkha Singh became an inspiration for millions. His story motivates young athletes to work hard and never give up on their dreams.
Thus, Milkha Singh’s success was built on strong willpower, effort, and dedication.
2) Describe the courage, honour and duty consciousness of Baldeo.
Baldeo is a brave and responsible character in the story “The Tiger in the Tunnel”. He works as a watchman at a railway tunnel in a forest area. His job is to make sure that the tunnel is safe and clear before the train passes at night. Though the area is dangerous and wild animals like tigers roam nearby, Baldeo never runs away from his duty.
Baldeo shows great courage. Even though he knows that a man-eating tiger is in the area, he still goes to work every night. He does not fear death. Instead, he carries his small iron axe and stands firm. When the tiger attacks him, he does not run but fights the animal with bravery. His courage shows that he is not afraid to protect others, even at the cost of his life.
He also shows honour. Baldeo takes pride in his work. Though it is a small job, he does it honestly. He knows the safety of the train and passengers depends on him. This shows his strong sense of honour and self-respect.
Baldeo’s duty consciousness is clear throughout the story. He never misses a day of work. Even on the dangerous night when he meets the tiger, he reports for duty. He understands his responsibility and performs it with full dedication.
In the end, Baldeo sacrifices his life while protecting the tunnel. His courage, honour, and sense of duty make him a true hero and an inspiration to all.

1) Critically analyse the poem 'Do Not Go Gentle into the Good Night.
The poem ‘Do Not Go Gentle into the Good Night’ is written by Dylan Thomas. It is a powerful and emotional poem about fighting against death. The poet tells us that people should not accept death quietly. Instead, they should resist it with strength and passion.
The poem is written in the form of a villanelle, a special type of poem with repeated lines. The two main lines repeated throughout the poem are: “Do not go gentle into that good night” and “Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” Here, “good night” means death, and “dying of the light” means the end of life. The poet uses these lines to tell us that we must not give up easily.
Dylan Thomas gives examples of different types of men—wise men, good men, wild men, and grave men. All of them, even though they lived differently, do not want to die silently. They fight against death in their own way. This shows that life is precious and worth fighting for.
At the end of the poem, the poet talks directly to his father, who is dying. He pleads with him not to give in to death. This makes the poem very personal and emotional. It shows the poet’s love and pain.
In simple words, the poem teaches us that life is a gift. We should live it fully and fight till the very end. It is a message of hope, courage, and strength in the face of death.
2) Explain how the 'Cloud' is personified throughout the poem.
The poem ‘The Cloud’ is written by Percy Bysshe Shelley. In this poem, the cloud is personified, which means it is given human qualities. The cloud speaks like a person and describes its actions, feelings, and importance in nature.
From the beginning, the cloud introduces itself and says, “I bring fresh showers for the thirsting flowers.” This line shows that the cloud takes care of the plants like a kind person giving water to someone thirsty. It also says that it helps to form the rainbow and decorate the sky. This makes the cloud look like an artist or a painter.
The cloud also talks about how it plays with the wind, shines with the sun, and covers the earth with rain and snow. It says, “I silently laugh at my own cenotaph,” meaning it never dies, even though people may think it disappears. It is always changing form – from water to vapor to rain – and comes back again and again. This gives the cloud a sense of immortality, just like a living being with a never-ending life.

Sunita Williams is also known for her courage, discipline, and hard work. She lived in space for many months and faced challenges with a smile. She became an inspiration for young girls and boys around the world. Her journey proves that with strong determination, anyone can achieve big dreams, even going to space.
2. Narrate the episode of bus conductor’s incident.
The bus conductor incident is from the story “The Gentlemen of the Jungle.” In the story, the liftman throws out a rude passenger from the lift because the man did not say “please.” This action creates a legal issue. The judge says that the liftman should not have taken the law into his own hands. Even though the passenger was rude, rudeness is not a legal crime. The court decides that only the law has the right to punish, not individuals. The story teaches an important lesson about good manners and the importance of following rules. It shows that justice must be done properly, through the court, and not by taking personal revenge.
3. The Gift
“The Gift” is a touching poem written by Li-Young Lee. In the poem, the speaker remembers a time when he was a young boy. He had a metal splinter in his hand, and his father removed it gently. The father’s soft voice and loving care made the pain go away. Years later, the speaker does the same for his wife when she gets hurt.
